1.1 Access to Define Fields for databases hosted from FileMaker Server 5
To work with field definitions in a database hosted by FileMaker Server, you must have exclusive access to the database. When you have exclusive access, no other guests are connected to the database.
If you have full access privileges and are the sole guest of a database hosted from FileMaker Server 5, you can access the Define Fields dialog box directly from the guest machine. You no longer have to close the database in FileMaker Server and reopen it locally in FileMaker Pro 5.
To access the Define Fields dialog box of a database hosted from FileMaker Server 5:
1. In FileMaker Pro, open the database from any guest machine.
2. Choose File menu > Define Fields.
3. If you are not the sole guest, you will see the number and
names of other users connected to the database. You can ask
these other guests to log off. Guests will be automatically
logged off 30 seconds after the Ask request is made.
You can also disconnect guests through the Administration
dialog in FileMaker Server 5, if you have configured
FileMaker Server 5 for Remote Administration.
4. When you have completed your changes in the Define Fields
dialog box, click Done. The file can now be accessed by
other guests.
1.2 Keyboard shortcuts for navigating between records in the Mac OS
You can now press Command+Tab to move to the next record, layout or request. Press Shift+Command+Tab to move to the previous record, layout or request. The Mac OS may use these same keyboard shortcuts for switching between open applications, in which case they will not function in FileMaker Pro. To disable or change the keyboard shortcuts for the Application Switcher, please see Mac Help.
1.3 FileMaker Pro 5 is Windows 2000 Ready
Installation and use of FileMaker Pro 5 is supported on the following operating systems: Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 3 or later), Mac OS 7.6.1 or later.
2. KEY FIXES IN FILEMAKER PRO 5.0v2
NOTE: The update to FileMaker Pro 5.0v3 includes all fixes made by the FileMaker Pro 5.0v2 update. It is not necessary to update to 5.0v2 before installing this software.
2.1 Using AppleScript to communicate with FileMaker Pro 5: using the Get Data command with multiple qualifiers, or parameters, resulted in an error. This has been corrected.
2.2 Corrected an issue in FileMaker Pro 5 which prevented the FileMaker Server Service from shutting down in a timely manner when FileMaker Server 5 is installed on Windows 2000 and remotely administered from the Mac OS.
2.3 Corrected a problem caused when users attempted to perform certain operation without sufficient access privileges: defining relationships, creating value lists, importing scripts, etc. In some cases, this could cause decreased performance in FileMaker Pro databases shared over a network.
2.4 Converting FileMaker Pro 3.0 and 4.x files to FileMaker Pro 5: in some situations, passwords longer than 24 characters in length could become corrupted during conversion. This has been corrected.
2.5 In Windows, Format menu sub-menus now correctly reflect the text format settings of the current selection, even when the sub-menus are disabled.
2.6 Addressed a Web Companion issue regarding passwords for Remote Administration of the Web Security databases. Passwords that began with the letter "t" would not be saved. For example, "text" became " ". Also, passwords that contained the letter "t" were truncated after the last character before the "t", changing "software" to "sof".
2.7 If an action performed on a database via a custom web solution failed and a custom HTML error page was not specified, the application would stop functioning properly. This has been corrected.
3. KEY FIXES IN FILEMAKER PRO 5.0v3
3.1 Opening a database with a JPEG image in a container field would cause FileMaker Pro 5 to crash on an iMac DV.
3.2 In the Edit Value List dialog, toggling between "Use custom values" and "Use value list from another file" while modifying a new, unsaved value list could cause the application to crash.
3.3 Value lists in a multi-user file could become corrupted if multiple nested instances of the Define Value List dialog were active.
3.4 Relationship definitions in a multi-user file could become corrupted if multiple nested instances of the Define Relationships dialog were active.
3.5 On the Mac OS, opening several nested instances of the Define Value List dialog could cause an unmapped exception error and system crash.
3.6 In Windows, sorting records with many related fields in the sort order could result in an application crash if the related files were set to multi-user.
3.7 In Windows, exporting records with many related fields in the export field order could result in an application crash if the related files were set to multi-user.
3.8 In the Mac OS, creating a File DSN using the ODBC Setup PPC control panel could result in a crash of the ODBC Configuration Manager. Users attempting to add a File DSN via the control panel will now see the following message: "The action you requested is not currently available. Please consult the product Release Notes for additional information." A FileMaker Pro File DSN may be created and configured using a tool such as Microsoft Query.
3.9 In the Mac OS, a copy of FileMaker Pro 5 hosting a file with a high number of guests could hang and beep after several hours of heavy network activity, if the guest machines were very low on available disk space.
3.10 Exporting more than 155 non-existing related records caused the application to hang.
3.11 In Windows, typing Alt+O, a nonexistent accelerator key, caused FileMaker Pro 5 to stop responding.
3.12 In Windows, corrected issues that resulted in an invalid page fault in MFC42.DLL.
3.13 Corrected several issues related to updating matching records in the found set when importing (Import Update):
3.13.1 When updating a file with related records, all of the related records of the last record to be updated were deleted.
3.13.2 Updating a container field using Import Update could clear the contents of the field in the updated file.
3.13.3 FileMaker Pro 5 incorrectly allowed an unstored calculation field to be selected as the updated file's match field.
3.13.4 Pure calculations were not triggered correctly after an import update that added additional records.
3.14 In Windows, FileMaker Pro 5 did not preview or print rotated text fields correctly if the fields were set to slide up.
3.15 In Windows, FileMaker Pro 5 could temporarily hang while editing an OLE object in a container field.
3.16 Fixed an issue where date field data could not be selected or updated via ODBC unless the system date format was set to m/d/yyyy.
3.17 FileMaker Pro 5 incorrectly allowed a container, summary or global field to be selected for use in a value list based on a relationship.
3.18 In the Mac OS, text styles are now preserved in pop-up menus.
3.19 The Change Password command was available when accessing a read-only multi-user file as a guest. This is no longer an option.
3.20 Corrected several errors in the context-sensitive help system.
3.21 Corrected several errors regarding the support of upper-ascii characters.
3.22 When importing Excel 95/5.0 format worksheets, extraneous text could be added to some imported records.
3.23 In Windows, fixed an issue which could prevent the import of multiple Fox Pro 2.5 DBF files.
3.24 In Windows, fixed an issue which could prevent the import of Excel 2000 worksheets.
3.25 In Windows, the Round() function could incorrectly return a zero value under specific circumstances.
